Apparently my mom's Miata (not pictured) is having a starting issue where it will crank, catch, but not idle. Now this is second hand information from my dad who is not mechanically inclined whatsoever, as I was gone this weekend. I personally think it could be the idle control valve because of the symptoms but not seeing it happen personally yet. Later today I am going to try jump the two pins in the diagnostic plug to see if the ECU throws a code. I will also try starting it while having the gas down a little bit to see if it stays running. The car needs some work and our mechanic has to do some work on it anyway (gaskets) but if it could be driven to his shop instead of towed, it would be nice (AAA so towing is covered, but still)

Idle control valve is what it sounds like to me. Also around the throttle it likes to get real gummed up on Miatas. Hit that with some throttle body cleaner and wipe it down

All of this. Will it fire up and keep running if you keep your foot on the gas keeping the throttle cracked?
